Winkelhock wins at Hockenheim after controversial crash between title rivals

Thomas Winkelhock won the penultimate ADAC Procar race of the year at Hockenheim after a controversial crash between title rivals Jens Weimann and Johannes Leidinger.

Weimann started from pole position but was caught up by the fast starting Leidinger. The two were very close for a couple of laps, with Weimann driving defensively.

Leidinger put his nose on the inside of Weimann in the Sachs corner, resulting in a minor slide for Weimann. The two went side-by-side in to the following corner and Leidinger bounced over the cubrs, colliding with Weimann, sending him spinning off track in to the barriers, with big rear-end damage and a retirement as result.

Leidinger continued but was overtaken by Winkelhock a lap later and was given a drive-through penalty, sending him to third in the S2000 category behind Markus Huggler. Leidinger is also under investigation by the stewards for a potential further penalty for the incident with Weimann.

The Division 2 category was won by pole position man Andreas Rinke ahead of Ralf Glatzel, Kai Jordan and Thomas Krebs.

David Griessner was forced to retire with 18 minutes left of the race due to technical problems.

The second and final race of the season starts at 17.45 CET.
