Jens Weiman confirmed as 2013 ADAC Procar champion

Almost two months after the German ADAC Procar Series finale at Hockenheim in September, Jens Weimann has now been confirmed as the 2013 Division 1 class champion, winning the Series for the second consecutive year after Liqui Moly Team Engstler withdrew their appeal at the last minute.

36-year-old Weimann, driving a BMW 320si for Thate Motorsport this year, had been provisionally confirmed as the champion after rival Johannes Leidinger, driving for Engstler Motorsport, was excluded from both races at the Hockenheim finale after a controversial collision in the first race. The incident between Leidinger and Weimann put Weimann out of the first race, and was unable to take part in the second race due to the damage sustained.

Leidinger’s results from the day meant he jumped ahead of Weimann in the drivers’ standings, but was subsequently excluded from both races by the stewards, handing the title back to Weimann.

Leidinger’s exclusion was subsequently appealed by the Engstler team, but on the eve of the appeal hearing, the team decided to withdraw it, making the results of the Hockenheim race final and confirming Weimann as the champion.

Weimann has already announced that he doesn’t plan to defend his title next season, instead focussing on the racing career of his daughter.
