ADAC Procar adds new class for 2014 season
The ADAC Procar Series will reinstate a third division of competition for the 2014 championship season, with Division 3 returning in which MINI Challenge type cars will be able to compete.
The German touring car series will effectively have four classes next season. The series retains its two Division 1 classes which allow cars built to the Super 2000 regulations, the rules have been used in the WTCC between 2005 and 2013. Division 1S is for normally aspirated cars and Division 1T for cars equipped with the 1.6-litre turbocharged engine which was introduced in the World Championship in 2011.
Although ADAC Procar has permitted teams to run cars with this engine since 2012, no cars have as yet been entered with all 1.6 turbo cars being retained by teams competing in the WTCC up until now. As such, Divison 1S cars have been the front-running class in the Series, with teams predominantly competing with BMW’s 320si E90 model.
Division 2 allows cars to compete which are built to FIA Super 1600 regulations, which includes the popular Ford Fiesta 16v and ST as well as the Citroën C2 VTS and the Chevrolet Aveo.
The new-for-2014 Division 3 class will also allow 1.6 litre MINI Challenge class cars to compete in the Series.
Seven events have been confirmed for the 2014 season, with the location and date of the season finale, which was this year held at Hockenheim, still to be confirmed.
