New turbo cars eligible for the 2014 ETCC
This year’s five event FIA European Touring Car Cup, which begins on 20th April at the Paul Ricard circuit in France, will open up to allow the more recent 1.6 turbo WTCC cars into the Cup for the 2014 season.
The fastest class will be the Super 2000 category, which will be opened up to Super 2000 Appendix J Article 263 2013 cars as well this season, which are effectively the 1.6 litre turbocharged cars that have been used in the FIA World Touring Car Championship since 2011 – and will now be referred to as “TC2 Turbo” cars. The title awarded for winning this class will be the FIA European Super 2000 Cup-Winning Driver (TC2 Turbo).
Also eligible will be the older Super 2000 Appendix J Article 263 2010 cars, which will be known as the TC2 class. These have been used in the ETCC since the Cup began in 2005, and the title on offer will be the FIA European Super 2000 Cup-Winning Driver (TC2).
The Super 1600 title will also remain, which principally sees cars competing which have been built for the German ADAC Procar Series Division 2 category. In recent years this class has seen strong entries from Ravenol Teams SAN and GENA with their Ford Fiesta 1.6 16v and Maurer Motorsport with their Chevrolet Aveo.
The third class is the Single-Make Trophy (SMT), introduced in 2012, and is open to cars built for the previous SEAT León Supercopa series (Mk.II). The newer Mk.III cars which are being built for the new SEAT León Eurocup series will not be eligible for the ETCC’s SMT class.
The final two titles are the FIA Touring Car Nations Cup, which was won by the Czech Republic last year thanks to the tallies scored by Petr Fulín and Michal Matĕjovský, as well as the FIA European Touring Car Ladies’ Trophy, which was won by Swiss driver Andrina Gugger in 2013.
The final deadline for full-season entries for this year’s FIA European Touring Car Cup, which features races at Paul Ricard, Slovakiaring, Salzburgring, Spa-Francorchamps and Pergusa, is March 31st.
