Engstler Motorsport to field two cars in the 2014 ETCC

Liqui Moly Team Engstler will again field a pair of BMW 320si E90s in this year’s FIA European Touring Car Cup in the Super 2000 TC2 category. The team will compete with Swiss driver Christian Fischer returning at the team, where he’ll be joined by new team-mate Plamen Kralev, from Bulgaria.

Fischer raced for the team in three of the five races last season for the Engstler team. After missing the Slovakiaring round, he was forced to withdraw from the third round of the season at the Salzburgring when he broke one his vertebrae in the Friday test session.

The team have also confirmed that Plamen Kralev will join the squad, effectively taking over from 2010 ADAC Procar Series champion Roland Hertner behind the wheel of their second 320si.

The 41-year-old Bulgarian has a history in sports car racing, having raced in the FIA GT3 European Championship and the International GT Open series, before embarking on a three-year stint in the FIA Formula 2 single-seater series from 2010 to 2012.

“We are happy with our driver line-up and we are aiming to fight for the title this year,” said team manager Kurt Treml. “Christan had a bad incident last year at the Salzburgring and was forced to skip some races before a full recovery. This year he is fully fit and looking forward to the championship.

“With Plamen Kralev we have a highly motivated driver, with a lot of experience and a professional attitude. We will begin our testing programme by the end of March in order to be well prepared for the challenge.”

The team is also set to field a pair of turbocharged BMW 320 TCs in the FIA World Touring Car Championship’s TC2 class, with that programme still to be finalised.
