Charlie Geipel wins race one at the Sachsenring
YACO Racing’s Charlie Geipel took his third win of the 2014 ADAC Procar Series season, maintaining a 100% victory ratio, in the first race of the day at the Sachsenring, taking the chequered flag in his Toyota Auris S2000 over 12 seconds ahead of the Ford Fiesta 1.6T of Johannes Leidinger.
In third position was Heiko Hammel in the Wolf Racing Ford Fiesta, which also means the 26-year-old is now confirmed as the 2014 Division 1 class champion, with his closest competitor Reinhard Nehls now ten points behind with ten remaining from tomorrow’s race, but Hammel has already has five victories to Nehls’ none as the tiebreaker.
In Division 2, the class victory went to Nils Mierschke in his Ford Fiesta, making only his second appearance of the season. Mierschke finished ninth overall, 1.2 seconds ahead of already crowned Division 2 champion Alexander Rambow’s ETH Tuning Peugeot 207 Sport.
Steve Kirsch took victory in Division 3 for the MINI Challenge class, and was already effectively the champion as soon as the weekend began, after Thomas Tekaat had dropped out of the championship before the previous race at the Nürburgring, and now enjoys a 26 point margin over his absent competitor. Kai Jordan’s third place in class moves him to six points behind Tekaat.
The second race of the weekend, and final race of the season, takes place at 15:05 CET on Sunday.
