Michal Matejovsky back for assault on TC2 class in ETCC

Michal Matejovsky will return for a third consecutive year in the FIA European Touring Car Cup, and outlined his programme for the season at a press conference in his home country at the Czech Republic’s Senate building on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old driver will again race for Krenek Motorsport, which have won the class for normally aspirated Super 2000 cars for the past two yearss, albeit with Petr Fulín behind the wheel of the team’s ex-Wiechers-Sport BMW 320si. For this season, Fulín has switched to race a SEAT León Cup Racer in the Single-Make Trophy class, leaving Matejovsky as Krenek’s lead shot for the TC2 class, in a BMW which will now race in the colours of the Czech national flag.

“It will be my third season in the FIA European Touring Car Cup and I want to try to build on my results from last season and maybe even improve,” said Matejovsky. “Over the winter I lost 8kg, fitness is very important and I am perfectly prepared,” he added.

Krenek team principal Josef Krenek added:
“Michal is a young and talented driver who is always very well prepared. As for the car, we have tried to adapt to the rules and made further developments on the chassis weight. We are a small team and to be able to start in the ETCC makes us very proud, therefore we made the decision to start in the colours of the Czech Republic.”

The ETCC gets underway on May 3rd in Budapest, Hungary, supporting the third round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship.
