Expanded line-up for ETCC’s second round at the Slovakiaring

The second round of the 2015 FIA European Touring Car Cup takes place this weekend at the Slovakiaring, and the grid will expand to 21 cars from the season opener at the Hungaroring last month, with the addition of three cars to the SEAT-filled Single-Make Trophy class.

In the first race meeting in Hungary, Serbia’s Dusan Borkovic and Hungarian driver Ferenc Ficza took overall victories in their SEAT Leóns and head to this weekend as joint championship leaders in the Single-Make Trophy class, while the TC2T class for older turbocharged Super 2000 class cars is led by Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver Davit Kajaia, who scored both class wins in his BMW 320 TC.

The TC2T and TC2 classes feature the same entry as Hungary, with four BMW 320 TCs contesting TC2T, and a pair of Rikli Motorsport’s Honda Civic FD2s fighting against a pair of BMW 320sis in the normally aspirated Super 2000 class.

The Super 1600 entry, led by Nicklas Machschin by five points, drops by one car to four, with Ravenol Team’s Christian Kranenberg not returning for this round, while Kazazh driver Alexandr Artemyev also won’t return in the Single-Make Trophy class, but Zengo Motorsport will add a second SEAT León for Norbert Toth, who earlier this year competed in the TCR International Series, while SEAT León Eurocup squad LEIN Racing will join on a one-off basis and field their León Cup Racers for Serbian driver Mladen Lalusic and Montenegro driver Dejan Bulatovic.

“We chose the ETCC because it offers a good media platform and it is an interesting concept, offering good racing, while it is a platform to learn a lot from other more experienced teams and also progress,” said LEIN Racing Team Manager Miroslav Rastovic. “We are a small and new team, the drivers race for less than a year and we expect to be competitive but we do not have any expectations on our shoulders. Our sponsors will be represented on a very respected media platform and we will participate in a great championship, so it is already a win-win for us. But if we will be in a situation to get some points, we will surely take them.”

Of note this weekend is that Mat’o Homola, the only Slovakian driver entered for the race, will be on double duty as he switches from his family run SEAT León Cup Racer in the ETCC’s Single-Make Trophy class, to Campos Racing’s TC1-spec Chevrolet RML Cruze in the FIA World Touring Car Championship throughout the weekend.
