Mat’o Homola tops red flagged first test in Slovakia
Local star Mat’o Homola topped the first practice session of the European Touring Car Cup at the Slovakiaring, leading Czech driver Petr Fulín and Serbian Dusan Borkovic in the 45 minute session, which ended early after a crash for Aytac Biter in the Borusan BMW.
Borkovic had led the time sheets throughout much of the session in the B3 Racing SEAT León Cup Racer, but shortly after half-way, Homola and Fulín jumped to first and second in their SEATs, with Homola just two-tenths of a second ahead of his Czech rival.
Making his ETCC debut, Montenegro driver Dejan Bulatovic was fourth fastest in the LEIN Racing SEAT, with Michal Matejovsky fifth fastest in the Krenek Motorsport-run BMW 320si, and was fastest in the TC2 class.
Davit Kajaia, the Georgian driver in the Liqui Moly Team Engstler BMW, was the best placed of the TC2T class drivers in the turbocharged BMW 320 TC, eighth overall and 3.5 seconds off of Homola’s ultimate pace.
In the S1600 class, Gilles Bruckner was fastest in the Lux Motor Ford Fiesta, 16th overall and 1.5 seconds ahead of his closest class rival Nicklas Mackschin.
The second test gets underway at 14:45 local time, but Mat’o Homola will be on track again before that as he takes part in the World Touring Car Championship test session with Campos Racing’s Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 at 13:10.
