Dusan Borkovic takes second win of 2015 at the Slovakiaring
B3 Racing’s Dusan Borkovic won the second race of the day at the Slovakiaring, making a strong start to leap from sixth to third at the first corner, before making his way forward to grab the lead on lap six, while Davit Kajaia took his fourth consecutive win in the TC2T class and second overall for Engstler Motorsport.
Michal Matejovsky started race two from pole position but slide down the order in the normally aspirated BMW by the end of the first lap, with Ronny Jost taking the lead in the TopCar SEAT León, with Borkovic now up to second followed by Andreas Pfister’s SEAT.
The safety car was out at the end of the first lap due to an incident at Turn 9 which saw Borosan Otomotiv Motorsport driver Aytac Biter buried in the gravel.
When the race restarted, Borkovic was on the defence against Pfister while Jost was able to briefly pull out a lead, but the Swiss driver was quickly caught and passed by the pair of them a lap later, and then was made to serve a drive-through penalty for a jump start.
The restart also saw further drama as first LEIN Racing’s Mladen Lalusic went wide at Turn 1 in his SEAT León, with Ulrike Krafft sliding her Ravenol Team Ford Fiesta wide and bringing gravel back onto the circuit at Turn 3, losing the S1600 class lead to Nicklas Mackschin.
Borkovic, after taking the lead, was only briefly under threat when Davit Kajaia completed a pass on Andreas Pfister for second, and with the Georgian having set the fastest lap of the race, was slowly closing on the Serbian during the middle part of the race.
Further back, Mat’o Homola emerged from a SEAT scuffle to take third from Pfister on lap seven, and through the closing laps was putting pressure on Kajaia, which in turn released pressure from Borkovic.
Ferenc Ficza, who had retired from race one and jointly led the standings before the race, charged through the field all the way up to fourth position, before a puncture robbed him of another potential strong points finish.
Petr Fulín was able to get ahead of Andreas Pfister’s SEAT on the penultimate lap, which means the Czech driver now shares the points lead of the Single-Make Trophy along with Dusan Borkovic, heading to the next race which is in a week at the Paul Ricard circuit in France.
