Heiko Hammel capitalises on Lestrup’s DNS in Lausitz
Heikko Hammel closes the points gap in the ADAC Procar Series Division 1 class to just 12 points after Fredrik Lestrup’s race winning streak in the series came to a swift end at the Lausitzring, when the Swede’s Team Dombek MINI John Cooper Works car failed to get away at the start of the second race.
With Lestrup pushed away from the grid at the start, it was Milenko Vukovic who led most of the race in his Renault Clio RS in his first meeting of the season. Reigning champion Hammel worked his way up to second place ahead of Kai Jordan’s MINI, before the Wolf Racing Ford Fiesta driver inherited the lead with one lap to go when Vukovic’s Renault suffered a technical failure on lap 18, with Franjo Kovac also passing Jordan for second.
In The Division 2 class for Super 1600 cars, Ralf Glatzel took his second win of the weekend, completing a four-race winning streak and now has a 12 point lead over ETH Tuning drive Matthias Meyer.
The MINI Challenge Division 3 class saw Steve Kirsch take his sixth win from six races, and now leads the class by 32 points over Bernhard Wagner, who finished second ahead of Dirk Lauth.
The next round of the ADAC Procar Series takes place on July 25th-26th at the Salzburgring in Austria.
