Davit Kajaia elated with first career outright pole position

Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s claimed the first pole position in a European Touring Car Cup race for a TC2T class car since Nikolay Karamyshev at Pergusa last year, after the Georgian driver clocked the circuit with a time of 1:41.507 in his BMW 320 TC before the rain hit during the 30-minute qualifying session.

Kajaia can wrap up the TC2T class drivers’ title this weekend even though the season finale at Pergusa offers double points, has now taken pole position for every race of the season in his class and won all eight races to date, and had now added to that record his first overall pole.

“I’m very happy,” said Kajaia. “My car was in a very good condition, my team did a great job and the balance of the car was perfect.

“I like this circuit very much, and I think I could have gone even quicker, but I made a mistake on my first lap and missed a break point, but I am happy with my first pole position.”
