Turbo fire hits Ümit Ülkü in Zolder practice session

Ülkü Motorsport driver and team principal Ümit Ülkü was hit by a fire on his BMW 320 TC in the final practice session ahead of qualifying, but looks set to be able to take part in the session in three hours, maintaining the presence of four cars in the TC2T category.

The Turkish BMW driver had set eight laps before the issue occurred, with his BMW 320 TC grinding to a halt with flames emanating from the car. The car has been returned to the pits where the team are preparing for qualifying and removing the fire extinguisher fluid from the system.

Ülkü finished the session 13th fastest, 13 seconds off of the pace of B3 Racing’s Dusan Borkovic.
