Heiko Hammel wins Race 2 in Zandvoort for Wolf Racing
Heiko Hammel took a comfortable victory in the second race of the weekend in Zandvoort in his Wolf Racing Ford Fiesta ST, as championship leader Fredrik Lestrup was sidelined following an engine failure in qualifying on his Besaplast Racing MINI Cooper.
Hammel took the maximum score on offer with victory and the fastest lap point on his way to victory, over 11 seconds clear of Milenko Vukovic’s Audi A3, and draws up level with Lestrup in the championship standings, tied on 50 points each, with consistency the key in Hammel’s challenge so far this season.
Steve Kirsch finished third in his one-off outing in Bastuck Motorsport’s Ford Fiesta, taking over the red car from former champion Johannes Leidinger, while a decimated Super Production field saw just four cars make the finish in the class, with Franjo Kovac’s Audi A3 the last classified finisher in fourth.
Dominique Schaak secured victory in the Production 1 class ahead of Race 1 winner Dirk Lauth, closing the gap by two points to 15 in the championship standings, both driving a pair of MINI John Cooper Works.
Ralf Glatzel finished third in class in his Ford Fiesta ST, ahead of Victoria Froß in her IMC Motorsport MINI, with Steffan Schwan the last classified driver in ninth.
The next round of the championship takes place on June 19th, sharing with the TCR International Series at Oschersleben.
