Spa-Francorchamps Race 4 red flagged due to heavy rain
The final race of the TCR Benelux season opener has been red flagged due to persistent rain, which began to fall even more heavily during the intermission between Races 3 and 4.
Boutsen Ginion Racing’s Renaud Kuppen was due to start from pole position courtesy of his win in Race 3 ahead of team-mate Stéphane Lémeret, with the DG Sport Opel Astra of Pierre-Yves Corthal due to start third.
Races 3 and 4 are separated by default by a one-lap safety car intervention, but as the rain began to fall more heavily, the safety car was kept out by the stewards, which controlled the field for three laps before the officials decided to red flag the race.
With the time approaching 6pm CET in Belgium and with no sign of conditions improving, it’s unclear but quite unlikely that the race will be resumed.
The result of Race 4 was therefore declared after just three laps behind the safety car, with no green flag activity.
