Half-points awarded after Radermecker and Comini crash causes red flag

The fourth and final sprint race of the TCR Benelux series race weekend at Colmarberg in Luxembourg has seen just half-points awarded, after the race was red flagged following five safety car laps following a collision between the Volkswagens of Stefano Comini and Vincent Radermecker.

Comini had started from pole position courtesy of having won the third race, but was passed by the Opel Astra of Pierre-Yves Corthals at the rolling start.

Radermecker and Comini then came together and crashed out, with both Radermecker’s Milo Racing-run Volkswagen and Comini’s WRT Golf stranded in the middle of the circuit.

The safety car was deployed but with the race set to exceed its time limit and with no restart possible, the race was aborted with just one lap run under green and six laps completed in total.

It’s the second half-points race of the season after the fourth sprint race in Spa-Francorchamps was also abandoned early, that time for heavy rain.

Stéphane Lémeret leads the championship on 351 points in his Boutsen-Ginion Honda Civic, now 62 points clear of the Opel pair of Pierre-Yves Corthals and Frédéric Caprasse, with Maxime Potty fourth, 118 points behind.

The season finale takes place at Mettet in Belgium on October 22nd-23rd.
