Stefano Comini wins Sprint 3 for Team WRT in Colmarberg

Stefano Comini helped take Team WRT to their first sprint race victory in the 2016 TCR Benelux series at Colmarberg, winning the first of the afternoon’s races by more than six seconds ahead of DG Sport Opel driver Pierre-Yves Corthals.

Comini started from pole position courtesy of setting the fastest lap during yesterday’s qualifying race and proved to be an unstoppable force in the first sprint race, securing the team’s first win and helping co-driver Maxime Potty pull away from WRT team-mates Sam Dejonghe and Denis Dupont in the drivers’ standings.

Corthals took critical points with second, reducing the gap slightly to championship leader Stéphane Lémeret, but with Lémeret’s co-driver Kris Richard finishing third in the race, the young Swiss driver had helped mitigate against the damage.

Mathieu Detry finished fourth for Ferry Monster Autosport, with Alexis van de Poele fifth for Delahaye Racing in the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Corthals has now reduced the gap to Lémeret in the standings to 65.5 points. The final sprint race follows after a one-lap safety car intervention, with Comini starting from pole position.
