Zsolt Szabo and Fabio Mota top ETCC test sessions at the Hungaroring

Zengõ Motorsport’s Zsolt Szabo and LEIN Racing’s Fabio Mota were fastest in today’s two testing sessions at the Hungaroring, with Szabo topping the dry first session in his SEAT León TCR, while Mota was fastest in the wet afternoon session.

Szabo set the best lap time of 1:56.448 in the 45-minute first session, just over two-tenths of a second faster than Plamen Kralev in his Kraf Racing-run Audi RS 3 LMS.

Former champion Petr Fulín was third fastest in his Krenek SEAT, just over half a second behind, while Fabio Mota was the only other driver within a second of Szabo in the dry, fourth fastest.

The TCN2-class Honda Civics of Christjohannes Schreiber and Peter Rikli, which dominated Monza, although a start violation penalty deprived them of the victory in Race 1, were off the pace in 11th and 12, 3.5 seconds down.

In the wet afternoon session, the times were substantially slower than the morning, with Mota emerging fastest with a time of 2:08.953, almost 12 seconds slower.

Kralev was again second fastest, just 0.045 seconds behind, while Kazakh driver Alexandr Artemyev was third quickest in the Baporo SEAT, seven-tenths behind.

Petr Fulín was fourth fastest, just within a second, while the gaps quickly increased behind him, with Norbert Nagy fifth fastest for Zengõ, 1.5 seconds down, with Macedonia’s Igor Stefanovski 2.6 seconds behind in sixth.

The Rikli Hondas were again just over three seconds behind, with Schreiber ninth fastest and Peter Rikli 11th.

The ETCC cars are back on track for their next practice session at 10:30 CET on Saturday morning.
