Guillaume Mondron celebrates second long race victory in a row

Guillaume Mondron has moved into the effective lead of the drivers’ standings after his qualifying long race victory at Zandvoort, with the Delahaye Racing team driver winning his second long race in a row, now driving the Volkswagen Golf his brother Edouard drove at Spa two weeks’ ago.

“I’m really happy,” said Mondron to TouringCarTimes. “It’s my second qualifying race victory. It’s been a very nice start of the season. Unfortunately my brother couldn’t be here, but it’s nice to race with Giacomo and also offer him a first victory.”

Although Mondron is now well-placed in the championship, with current leaders Stefano Comini and Sheldon van der Linde only racing during the opening event as a one-off, the Mondron brothers full programme isn’t finalised.

“The goal for this year isn’t to do the whole season, so it still depends on the budget,” said Mondron. “The SEAT wasn’t very nice here last year, but the Volkswagen was really good – it’s a really great car here, but our goal is to stay with the SEAT for the rest of the season.”

After a challenging start in the TCR International Series with WestCoast Racing, co-driver Altoè, in his second TCR Benelux series race, was delighted with the result on Saturday.

“My team-mate did a great job in the first part of the race,” said Altoè to TouringCarTimes. “And we had really good pace during the whole race.

“Though this is a good track for the Volkswagen, a lot of other cars were also fast here,” he added.
