Benjamin Lessennes completes perfect weekend with Sprint 4 win

Benjamin Lessennes has completed a perfect weekend for the Boutsen Ginion Racing team at Zolder, with the #2 Honda Civic TCR winning all five races, with Lessennes launching into a 21-point lead of the championship.

Lessennes again led the way from the start in his Honda Civic, while Frédéric Vervisch was up to second in the Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 from fourth on the grid ahead of the Peugeot 308 of Aurélien Comte.

Mathieu Detry again had a bad start in the Team WRT Volkswagen and was down to seventh from sixth, falling behind Frédéric Caprasse’s Delahaye Volkswagen.

Comte moved up to second with a lunge similar to his pass on Detry in Race 3 at Earste, but the two made contact with Vervisch forced wide, running off track and dropping a further spot to the WRT Volkswagen of Denis Dupont. The incident has been marked as to be investigated by the stewards after the race.

Detry managed to reclaim his position from Caprasse on lap six, while Vervisch stopped out on circuit on lap eight, out of fourth position.

More retirements soon followed, with Caprasse slowing and pitting his Volkswagen, while Dupont also pitted out of third, which promoted Edouard Mondron to the final podium position.

Detry was fourth, followed by the two Bas Koeten Audis of Willem Meijer and Stan van Oord, with just six cars making the finish.

Lessennes victory now sees him lead the drivers’ standings on 235 points, 21 clear of Guillaume Mondron, with Tom Coronel third on 195, just 19 points further behind.
