Benjamin Lessennes goes from last to first in Mettet Sprint 3

Benjamin Lessennes took the sixth win of the season for the #2 Boutsen Ginion Honda, driving from last to first in ten laps, depriving the DG Sport Peugeot of Aurélien Comte of the victory, and is now just one point behind in the championship.

Comte started from pole in the DG Sport Compétition Peugeot 308 Racing Cup, and led the way at the start ahead of Mika Morien’s Bas Koeten Audi and Denis Dupont’s Team WRT SEAT León, but Lessennes was already making progess from eighth, and was up to fifth by the end of the first lap.

On lap three, Alexis van de Poele retired from fourth as Lessennes made his way through, and was soon passed Dupont’s SEAT on lap four for third, meanwhile the Team WRT Volkswagen of Maxime Potty got ahead of championship leader Guillaume Mondron’s Volkswagen for fifth.

Lessennes overtook Morien’s Audi on lap five, and set about closing down the gap to Comte’s Peugeot, who now had a two-second lead.

The Honda driver didn’t take long to close on the Peugeot, passing on lap ten down the start-finish straight to take the lead, and then settled down and protected his Michelin tyres for Race 4.

Lessennes won the race just over a second clear of Comte after 19 laps, with the Bas Koten Audi of Mika Morien completing the podium.

WRT pair Potty and Dupont followed, with Mondron sixth, and Jonas de Kimpe the last classified finisher in seventh in his DK Racing Volkswagen.

Lessennes’ win closes him up to just one point behind title rival Mondron ahead of the fourth and final race of the weekend, which follows imminently with the grid as per Race 3’s result.
