Poles for Lorenzo Donniacuo and Aurélien Comte in Mettet sprint races

Bas Koeten Audi driver Lorenzo Donniacuo will start this morning’s first sprint race from pole position at Mettet after setting the fastest lap in the last half of the qualifying long race, while race winner Aurélien Comte will start from pole for Race 3.

Donniacuo, a last-minute draft to replace Maarten Mus at the Dutch team, was the fastest driver in the second segment of the qualifying race, after taking over the Audi RS 3 LMS from co-driver Alexis van de Poele, setting a time of 1:06.442.

Donniacuo, who raced with Guillaume Mondron at Delahaye Racing last time out at Zolder, will be joined on the front row by that same Delahaye car, driven by Giacomo Altoè, while Jonas de Kimpe lines up third in his DK Racing Volkswagen Golf, while reigning champion Stéphane Lémeret starts from the back in his Boutsen Ginion Honda after not setting a time due the Honda’s retirement in the qualifying race, and will be targeting to fight his way forward and score points for his co-driver Benjamin Lessennes, who has now lost the lead of the championship.

Lessennes will take over the car for Sprint Race 3, and will also start eighth and last, while long race winner Aurélien Comte was fastest on fresher tyres and will start on pole in the DG Peugeot 308, ahead of Mika Morien’s Bas Koeten Audi RS 3, with Denis Dupont third in the Team WRT SEAT León.

Sprint Race 1 gets underway at 12:45 CET, with the second sprint race immediately afterwards.
