Cherry Cheung joins Teamwork Motorsport for Sepang finale

Teamwork Motorsport will return for the 2019 TCR Malaysia championship season finale next weekend, fielding their Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for up-and-coming female racer Cherry Cheung.

The Hong Kong-based team contested just the season opener, running the car for World Touring Car Cup driver Rob Huff, with the Briton seeking set-up data for this year’s WTCR finale in December.

The team skipped the second round of the championship, which has been dominated by Engstler Motorsport’s Luca Engstler, but will return for the final round, running the car for Hong Kong driver Cherry Cheung, who started racing only last year in the Chinese TMC and Chinese Racing Cup series.

“My dream is to race with my Teamwork brothers in the Macau Grand Prix one day,” said Cheung. “There is still a long way to go, and right now I have to get as much seat time as possible.

“Racing on different circuits will help me to learn, which is very important at this point. I am also very grateful to have Samuel as a coach and friend. He will be in TCR Malaysia with me to monitor my performance and help me with difficult decisions which I don’t yet have the experience to make.

“All-in-all, I am very excited to make my TCR debut with Teamwork and I will put together everything I’ve learnt from last year for this outing.”
