Cupra rule out WTCR involvement for 2020 season

Cupra has ruled out any form of official involvement with the new Leon Competición TCR model during the 2020 World Touring Car Cup season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Spanish manufacturer had a co-operation with both PWR Racing and Comtoyou Racing last season.

“Due to the effects of COVID-19, Cupra has decided to not participate in the 2020 WTCR with a team supported by the factory,” said a Cupra communications officer to sportmotores.com.

Comtoyou Racing recently announced the end of its co-operation with Cupra, while PWR Racing is yet to confirm its international plans.

The Swedish team will however run the new Cupra Leon Competición TCR model in its 2020 STCC TCR Scandinavia programme.

“Cupra will continue to support its motorsport customers in all TCR series, providing technical engineering support on all tracks, as well as technical assistance from the Cupra Racing factory,” said the Cupra communications officer.
