Halder siblings target WTCR switch

German siblings Mike and Michelle Halder have revealed plans to try and make the move into the World Touring Car Cup this season.

Mike finished as runner-up in the 2017 TCR Germany season, whilst sister Michelle has won races in both the German series and in TCR Europe – where the pair raced last season.

Work is currently ongoing to try and secure the funding required for the pair to make the step up to the WTCR with the family-run Team Halder squad, which currently runs the Honda Civic Type-R TCR.

“The aim is to drive the whole season with my brother in the WTCR,” Michelle Halder revealed. “At the moment it’s difficult because of COVID-19 affecting sponsorship but we are working on it and we hope we can be in WTCR.

“WTCR is a dream come true because to drive against the best touring car drivers in the world would be really, really fantastic.

“There are many tracks we don’t know so it’s going to be a season to learn, but I hope we can make some great progress and get as much experience as we can.”

Should a deal be done, Michelle Halder would be the first woman to compete in WTCR, and would be eligible for the new FIA WTCR Female Driver title.
