Milenko Vukovic wins 2016 DTC title with victory at Spa-Francorchamps

Milenko Vukovic has won the 2016 Deutscher Tourenwagen Cup (DTC) Super Production drivers’ title after victory in the final race of the season at Spa, finishing just under a second ahead of title rival Heiko Hammel to secure the crown by just two points.

Vukuvic had taken pole position in his Besaplast Racing-run Audi A3 by nine-tenths of a second, and went on to lead Hammel’s Wolf Racing-run Ford Fiesta ST by a reduced margin of just three-tenths to deprive the 29-year-old of his second DTC drivers’ title.

Tomas Pekar finished on the final step of the podium in his Renault Clio, almost 14 seconds adrift, while Pavel Lefterov finished fourth overall, winning the Production 2.0 class as the only entry in the Volkswagen Scirocco Cup car.

Ralf Glatzel took his fourth consecutive victory in the Production 1.0 class in his Ford Fiesta, but with Victoria Froß finishing in second position, the IMC Motorsport driver had done enough to keep her second place in the division’s drivers’ table, with Dirk Lauth having already been confirmed champion ahead of Spa.

Vukovic’s title is the 41-year-old’s first in the DTC, and he succeeds Sweden’s Fredrik Lestrup as the champion, who withdrew from the championship mid-season after a string of mechanical issues and has since focussed his attention on joining the STCC for 2017.
