Nykjær signs with Poulsen Motorsport

Reigning DTC and ETC-champion Mikael Nykjær will change from SEAT to BMW next season, after his deal with the Danish SEAT-importer has ended. He will now change to Poulsen Motorsport and will drive one of the teams four BMW 320 Si.

”When Kristian Poulsen asked me if I wanted to drive for for him, I said yes immediately”, Mikael said. “He has big plans for his team, and we will drive both the full season in DTC and selected races in WTCC. We know each other and quickly agreed that we want to try and win DTC 2008.”

A change to rear-wheel drive doesn’t faze Nykjær. ”I don’t think it will be a problem. I’ve driven Porsche GT3 in Italy before and that wasn’t a problem.”

Who will drive the other three BMW’s is not yet finalized. But both a young talent and Irish driver Emmet O’Brien might be in contention for two of the seats according to teammanager Kristian Poulsen. ”The deal with Mikael is for eight DTC-races and the two of us will drive two or three WTCC-races t hat could include Zolder and Oschersleben and one more. I hope we can sign Nicki Thiim and Emmet O’Brien to the other two cars.”
