Ashley Cooper committed to do Fujitsu

Ashley Cooper has committed to run a full season of Fujitsu V8 Supercar Racing in an ex-Paul Morris Motorsport VZ Commodore.
Cooper, with support from team partners Capital Finance and The Warranty Group, has recently taken delivery of “Astro”: a Paul Morris Motorsport-built VZ Commodore; which was campaigned in the 2007 V8 Supercar Series by Fabian Coulthard and Owen Kelly.

Cooper will contest the full seven rounds of this year’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series, commencing in Adelaide at the Clipsal 500 meeting on 21st/24th February.

“It’s certainly a big move from leasing a drive with an existing Supercar team, to then purchase a car, and put everything in place to run your own race team,” explained Cooper. “But over time we have built strong working relationships with our major team partners – Capital Finance and The Warranty Group – and I know they are delighted to continue their association with Ashley Cooper Motorsport; and are as committed as we are to this year’s championship.”

Ashley, who was the 2006 V8 Utes Rookie of the Year, and a front-runner in the 2005 and 2006 Commodore Cup championships, tested the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series waters in 2007; competing in three rounds with the Sydney Star Racing outfit. A points-paying finish at the Queensland Raceway round, in what was effectively his first start in the Series, has given Ashley confidence going into the 2008 season.

“All of us here at Ashley Cooper Motorsport, including our partners Capital Finance and The Warranty Group, realise the enormity of the task ahead of us this year.”“We know we have a lot to learn, as a team, to match some of the quicker outfits; but racing and preparing our own car will provide us with the best opportunity to try and bridge that gap.”
