Assaillit confident for Wakefield

Fujitsu Racing’s Damian Assaillit is confident of a top-10 finish at round 2 of the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Wakefield Park this weekend.
After finishing 12th in the second race on the streets of Adelaide during round 1, the Sunshine Coast Racer has every reason to feel confident going into the Wakefield event.

The 18-year-old Engineering student is fully aware that qualifying will be critical on the tight Wakefield layout.

“We have very good car speed, but we need to get our heads around qualifying,” said Assaillit.

“In Adelaide we hit traffic; it then rained so we stared 17th. The key is to put in a time straight away and then work on improving it.

“It will be more important on the tight Wakefield layout as passing can be pretty difficult.

“There are a lot of guys in this series that deserve fulltime rides in the main V8 Supercar Championship Series. I want to be racing with them and that means qualifying towards the front.

“This weekend is a stand-alone round for us. That means we get to enjoy the priority with the schedule and we need to ensure that we make the most of our track time.

“The whole Fujitsu Racing team has improved and I’m positive we can show that throughout the weekend.

“I spent time with Jason Bright and the V8 Supercar Championship Series Fujitsu Racing team at the Grand Prix recently. It’s been good to speak with Jason and the team to better understand how to approach my racing.”

Preparation for the Wakefield Park round has been excellent.

“Ahead of the first round in Adelaide we worked pretty much non-stop,” said Team Owner David McMahon.

“We brought home a clean car from Adelaide and that has allowed us to fully concentrate on preparing for Wakefield.

“It’s a totally different track, but still provides a big challenge.

“We have a goal of getting ourselves into the top-5 as the season progresses. A top-10 at Goulburn would be very satisfying, anything above that would be outstanding.”
