Race Preview: 2008 starts at Jyllandsringen
DTC racing kicks off at Jyllandsringen on May 4th 2008 for the first round of the season. Jyllandsringen is located close to Silkeborg in Denmark. The first two testdays were held here last weekend with BMW in the top. Jan Magnussen topped the test with BMW-colleauge Tom Pedersen right behind him. DTC-newcomer and WTCC-ace James Thompson was third and topped the first test day.
Previously at Jyllandsringen
In 2007 Jan Magnussen won at Jyllandsringen after running side by side with Casper Elgaard. A slight bump and Jan Magnussen came out on top, taking the win despite a penalty.
The season so far
Being the first race there is little to report, however Jan Magnussen will be hoping to show the form he displayed here in 2007 after topping the timesheets at a recent test held at the track.
Drivers quotes prior to the race
Emmet O’Brien – Poulsen Motorsport
”I think I was chasing the car a little bit to much and changing the set-up, and for here (the circuit of FDM Jyllandsringen, ed.) you need to have a different car to ride the curbs and to get a lot of grip in the corners, but I think we are in a good shape for the weekend. There are a lot of new bits coming for the car, and it was also a little bit of disadvantage of not having a lot of data on the car, but that will be fixed for the weekend. There is also a new engine on the way from Germany, and hopefully that will improve for the weekend.”
James Thompson – Hartmann Honda Racing
”Next weekend is going to be quite tough, actually. The standard of competition here is very high. There is a lot of good cars, and it has been very interesting. It was a very good test and a nice way to familiarize me with things. It is a good team and I am looking forward to the first race.”
Jens Edman – Team Go Racing
“I felt at home instantly in the car and the co-operation between the team and me worked very well and I am really looking forward to this season. I do not think that the level of the grid has been this high before in Denmark. You really have to push your self, the team and the car to the max to be in the front.”
