Emmet O’Brien aiming for the top
Emmet O’Brien was one of three non-Danish drivers who made their debut in the Danish Touringcar Championship last weekend. Driving a Poulsen Motorsport BMW 320si E90 that had undergone a redecoration as the Irishman had struck a new sponsorship deal, the former WTCC regular just ended up with positions as 19th, 14th and 13th respectively from the three heats.
”What has been good? I suppose finishing the three races was an important thing to do, but we were at the wrong end of the timing sheets from the beginning, really,” Emmet O’Brien reflects on his series debut.
“We showed in practice that we had the pace, and in the Sunday morning warm up we even found more time. We qualified 19th, but then started in the pit lane because we had electrical problems before we went out, which was not ideal.”
The end result has been a mere five points for the Irishman, who at the team’s presentation at the beginning of April uttered his desire to fight for the title.
“I am quite happy with my driving. I made a lot of passing manouvres, which worked out well. I mean I finished three races without doing damage,” he says.
“I only got a few points which is not ideal, as there now is a big gap to the guys in the top of the championship, but you never now what happens during the races. I still have my sights on the top of the championship, but it is going to be tough.”
