Street race in Gothenburg?

After revealing plans for the 2009 Danish Touringcar Championship street race in Copenhagen, the DTC organisation is now reported to be planning a second street race in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. The event is rumoured to be held on the 6/7th of June, together with the Swedish Touring Car Championship.

Sturup Raceway in Malmö, Sweden has until now been the foreign track, normally used in the DTC series. However due to economical and commercial challenges, the DTC has been looking at two other events, both in Sweden.

The Danish Special Salooncar Challenge will be racing at Scandinavian Raceway at Anderstorp, and the STCC will be racing at the Gothenburg City Race. Both in the same weekend, but the commercial opportunities speak loudly for the Gothenburg City Race event. Last year a record number of 38.000 spectators visited the event.

Cooperation has been scoped for the DTC and the SSC class in the upcoming 2009 season, as the SSC class has been very popular with the spectators. But as successful this cooperation for the upcoming season has been, the DTC organisation seems determined to enter a full DTC race weekend together with the STCC.

The STCC event will be held on a Saturday, while the DTC event could possibly be racing on the following Sunday.

So the Gothenburg street race seems to have tipped the scale. The event has yet to be confirmed, as negotiations are still ongoing.
