Gothenburg race set to be confirmed

The Danish Touring Car Championship looks set to race in Gothenburg, on the 6/7th of June. The Swedish Touring Car Championship has recently sent out an invite to a press conference on the 22nd of January, concerning the Gothenburg street race in 2009. DTC promoter Peter Elgaard is presented as one of the hosts.

As TouringCarTimes.com exclusively wrote on the 13th of December 2008, the to be announced DTC race on the 2009 calendar will be held in Gothenburg, together with STCC on the 6/7 of June.

The DTC race has also been confirmed from several sources on the racing scene, approached by TouringCarTimes. The DTC has during previous year held race one event a year in Sweden on Sturup Raceway, but it could be different this year.

The street race on the harbour front of Gothenburg could be the first step towards a closer co-operation between the two championships, as the DTC has been suffering from a declining number of entrants before the 2009 season. However this is so far speculation, but the future looks very bright for the Swedish series.

The event also boasts a large crowd, last year the STCC and support classes raced in front of 38.000 spectators.

The DTC support class Special Salooncar Challenge will not be racing in Gothenburg if the deal goes through, as they will be attending a race on the Swedish track of Scandinavian Raceway Anderstorp in the same weekend.

More details concerning this event will emerge, when the press conference is held this Thursday.
