The financial recession is a fact, also in Danish Touringcar Championship. Due to the tougher times ahead, the DTC series has chosen to adjust to the new reality. Fewer races, fewer days for testing and updated regulations, the alterations is made to make is possible for all participants to race in the series in 2009.
”Like other big racing series the world over, we in the DTC organisation has adjusted the regulations for the situation, creating savings for the participating teams, “ Peter Elgaard from DTC A/S explains.
“When the world economy is on a rise, there are resources for testing, new developments and lots of racing weekends. But when the situation is like it is now, it is necessary to adjust. Concerning the DTC, this will happen through a limitation of allowed testing days. In 2009 they are limited to four days, where the first two will be the DTC dress rehearsal the 2. / 3. Of May at FDM Jyllandsringen.”
“Furthermore the usual DTC weekend at Sturup Raceway is Sweden is cancelled, which together with a limitation of the usage of tires for racing means, that most of the current DTC teams still can balance their budgets, and participate in the DTC championship.”
”It seems that we will get all the big stars on our starting list, and if everything gels together, all the winners of the DTC championship will also be on the starting grid of the 2009 DTC championship. “
The series will yet again feature both Danish, Swedish and German drivers. And the series will be held over 7 weekends, containing 4 races at FDM Jyllandsringen, two at Padborg Park and one at Ring Djursland. Just like 2008, the racing weekend will contain two qualification heats, and a finale. Furthermore there will also be a show race in the streets of Copenhagen, at the Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix.
The rumoured DTC race together with the STCC series at Gothenburg has been cancelled, due to cost according to our information. The number of teams the 2009 series will feature still seems uncertain, as several teams already has put their cars out for sale. But it is expected, that the new reduced calendar and reduced costs will make it possible for the smaller privateer teams to participate.
