Michel Nykjær confirmed for Chevrolet

Michel Nykjær confirmed today what most people already knew, he will drive for Chevrolet in the 2009 edition of the Danish Touring Car Championship. He will drive the very car he defended his European Touring Car Challenge crown with last year. The team is looking forward to have the former DTC champion in the car and WTCC is in the cards for 2009!

Michel Nykjær explains: “The ETCC race this fall was a one-race deal. But when we won the race, and the team and I confirmed our chemistry, it was only natural to start the negotiations to join the team for the 2009 DTC series.”

However this proved to be more challenging than expected, the crisis meant that sponsors were hard to come by.

“Things didn’t come into play as easy as expected. When everybody is talking about the crisis, but you must never give up! Now we are ready for the season opener, and all the troubles only served to motivate me even more to win the title this year. The Chevrolet is a car, which suits me, and I am certain that I will be in the sharp end of the field.”

The DTC series has first priority with Michel Nykjær, but its no secret that he is looking abroad.

“The team and I won the European championship together, and I am certain that we will do well in the WTCC. Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark has a very tight co operation with the WTCC team, and I am hoping that I will get to drive a few WTCC races, which doesn’t collide with the Danish races.“

The first DTC race will be on the 10th of May at FDM Jyllandsringen.
