Michel Nykjær storms to victory

After setting pole and dominating warm up, Chevrolet driver Michel Nykjær won Heat 1 at the first round of the Danish Touring Car Championship. Even though James Thompson qualified second, Nykjær did not look back. Thompson on the other hand, had his own battle on his hands, chased by Lundgaard, Watt and later also Magnussen. The defensive driving meant Nykjær could pull away, to win the first round with a huge distance to Thompson.

As soon as the lights went out at the rolling start, Nykjær made a blistering start taking the first corner.

Lundgaard and Thompson fought it out behind, Lundgaard trying to defend Nykjær from the field. The Brit tried to catch Nykjær, while Lundgaard managed to keep the rest of the field behind.

“I think the car worked very well. I tried to take it easy, and stay away from taking any chances,”Nykjær explained after the victory. “Jyllandsringen is hard on the tires, so I made sure be careful and not overdrive the car.”

In the train of cars behind Lundgaard, Jason Watt attacked several times, but was at the same time busy defending himself from Jan Magnussen who finally managed to catch the gag of cars at the front.

Martin Jensen won the Privateers Cup, working hard to catch his Alternative engineering teammate Magnussen. Best invitation-only driver was Jens Ole Mathiesen driving his BMW M3 to thirteenth spot.

Invitation-Only driver John Hansen went of the track at the last corner, paving the way for the fight between Kim Morgan Jensen and Martin Marrill, the latter drawing the longest straw in this fight.

Race two will be at 15.40, starting off with grid show and an autograph session.
