Poulsen brothers to join GP Danmark
TouringCarTimes has learned that WTCC driver Kristian Poulsen will make a comeback to the Danish Touringcar Championship at the Grand Prix Danmark in a few weeks, teaming up with his younger brother, Roland, in two BMW 320si E90.
While racing a full season in the WTCC, the Danish Liqui Moly Team Engstler driver is heading home to take part of the annual Grand Prix Danmark, known to be the main event of the danish championships.
The comeback was mentioned by Kristian himself back in the spring when he announced his WTCC plans, also stating that teammate Franz Engstler would join him for the danish venue. The plans have changed, and now Roland Poulsen, Kristians 24 year old brother, is making his debut in the top class of Danish motorsport.
“It will be very exciting to race with the best drivers in Denmark”, Roland says. “I have been lucky to find enough sponsors to make this entry possible.”
As he has never been racing a rear wheel drive racecar before, Roland is keeping his expectations at its lowest. “My primary goal is to finish, and not finish last. It’s a whole new experience for me, so I need to be a bit careful and get to know the car first.”
The 24 year old driver, residing in Varberg, Sweden, did his first ever race in 2007 in the danish VW Polo Cup and Renault Clio Cup.
Young Poulsen will use the DTC race as practice for the ADAC Procar race at Oschersleben, held alongside the WTCC race.
“These races are my chance to show that I can do well in touringcars, and hopefully help me get a deal for 2010”, Roland claims.
The Grand Prix Danmark venue is held at the Jyllandsringen circuit the 23rd of August.
