Team boss Hartmann subs for Thompson
While James Thompson is driving in the V8 Series in Australia, it will be Hartmann Honda team boss Hans Hartmann who will do the honours of driving the white Honda Accord at the upcoming Danish Touring Car Championship race at Ring Djursland, this upcoming weekend.
“Up to now, so many other drivers has been having fun in one of my cars, so now it is my turn to get a single race in it, to feel how much it has improved since the last time I drove it, “ Hartmann explains.“
He was the one introducing the Accord into the DTC back in 2005. Back then he was driving it, but since then it has been few and far between the driving honours in the race car.
“I had fifteen minutes of testing in it last year at Padborg Park, and this year I have only had the pleasure of driving it from the podium ceremony to the paddock.”
”I haven’t got any special expectations for the upcoming race, because I haven’t had any time to train, but I will do what I can. I have two free practice sessions to adjust to the car, before the qualification. But Ring Djursland is probably the track where I have driven the most of my test kilometres. It is also the track where I feel that I have driven my best races, and if the Honda is as good as they opposition say, I don’t think it should turn out too bad.”
James Thompson has not been confirmed for the final race on the calendar at the 3. / 4. of October, which could threaten his lead in the points table over Michel Nykjær. It is still not clear which other race series could keep him away from the DTC, as he will not drive at the BTCC finale, and the V8 series has not any race weekend which collides with the DTC finale.
The Brit will drive the Bathurst 1000 endurance race, but the race is scheduled a week later than the final DTC race. The Lada WTCC driving duty does not collide either with the Danish series. Several sources claim that Thompson will be back for the final race of the year in Denmark, but so far it is only speculation.
