Magnussen delivers in NASCAR debut
Mattias Ekström was not the only Scandinavian in the NASCAR race at Sonoma previous weekend. Jan Magnussen impressed by finishing 12th from 32nd on the grid in his first ever NASCAR race.
“This is a fantastic result,” said Magnussen.
“Normally I would not be happy about a twelfth place, but in this game, it’s really hard to achieve top results and if you’ll take my starting position into consideration and my problem with the car that stalled at every pit stop, then I have to be very, very happy with my effort today.”
The Dane, who drives a Chevrolet Lacetti for Prefection Racing in the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup otherwise, was impressed with the racing in NASCAR.
“It is the wildest 3 ½ hours I’ve had in a racecar. There are so many times where you are running side by side and although the racing is tough, there is great respect between the drivers, so you give each other room to run side by side for several corners in succession,” said Magnussen.
The Dane says he would absolutely be back in NASCAR if the opportunity comes back.
“There is no doubt that NASCAR has been one of the greatest experiences in my career and I would love to come back,” said Magnussen.
