Ohlsson: “Ekblom has to retire for us to take the title”

Linus Ohlsson dropped further behind championship leader Fredrik Ekblom after the TTA – Racing Elite League races at Anderstorp this weekend.
“It was of course not good for our title chances that Ekblom was ahead and in order for us to be able to take the title, Ekblom has to retire in a race,” said Ohlsson.

The Saab driver fought his way from seventh on the grid to fourth in the end at Anderstorp. But with Ekblom finishing second, the gap increased to 38 points in the championship with 58 points left to fight for in the final two races.
“I took it easy in the first part of the race to save my tyres. Then the others stated to make mistakes and I was able to pass a couple of drivers quite easily. I am happy and pleased with the result, but the points are really close for second as I am just one point ahead of Björk,” said Ohlsson.

Ekblom’s team mate Thed Björk finished third in the race and gained enough points to be just a single point behind Ohlsson for second in the championship.

Next up for Ohlsson and the TTA is the all-new Tierp Arena circuit outside of the capital Stockholm. Even if Ohlsson wins and Ekblom retires at Tierp, Ekblom will still have a nine point lead for the final race in Gothenburg where a maximum of 29 points can be scored.
“Ekblom has really got a really high lowest level, I think his worst finish so far is fifth this year. I have to improve my lowest level. We have to rely on Ekblom making a mistake in order to fight for the title, but I will nonetheless fight very hard in the last couple of races. Anything can happen in racing,” said Ohlsson.
