Superstars visits Brno as Giovanardi is back to touring cars
The Superstars Series heads to Brno for the second event of the year, this time with several new drivers and interesting challenges ahead of the Czech weekend.
With the two C63 AMGs driven by Vitantonio Liuzzi and Thomas Biagi dominating the weekend in Monza by taking a win each, the Brno track may suit different packages instead of the powerful Mercedes prepared by Team Romeo Ferraris.
Gianni Morbidelli is ready to exploit the full potential of the championship-winning Audi RS5 alongside Ferdinando Geri in the Audi Sport Italia cars. Luigi Ferrara is also expected to be among the protagonists in his Mercedes C63 AMG Coupè, as the Italian took two three places in the season opener.
Francesco Sini’s Chevrolet Camaro and Andrea Larini’s Jaguar XF could be among the top runners as well and should not be counted out of the top fight.
Edoardo Piscopo has been announced to drive a BMW M3 E92 prepared by RGA Sportmanship and will compete alongside fellow Bavarian cars of Team BMW Dinamic, driven by Giovanni Berton, Max Mugelli and Mauro Trentin. Piscopo has had a strong career in single seaters and is expected to perform well.
Another addition will be former Grand Prix driver Christian Klien, as the Austrian will drive another BMW prepared by Scuderia Giudici. The Austrian will make his comeback in the series after his highly successful drive in the Maserati last year at the Hungaroring, where he took a victory.
Fabrizio Giovanardi and his Porsche Panamera S will be the stars of the weekend, as the touring car legend goes back to touring cars with Petri Corse, after the defending champion Johan Kristoffersson has elected to take part in the GT Italian Championship instead with Audi. The Italian ace already has four wins to his name in the series, after making his debut on the very same Panamera he is going to drive this weekend, albeit with the technical support of N Technology, who developed the car.
The Italian, who has some 24 race wins, two titles in the British Touring Car Championship and took four titles in the European Touring Car Championship, will go back to touring cars after spending the last two years on a Ferrari P4/5.
The Brno weekend promises exciting battles and interesting technical challenges for the teams. The weekend starts on Saturday with the first Free Practice session at 09.00 CET.
