Superstars to visit Slovakia with Biagi in the lead

The Superstars Series will visit Slovakia for the first time ever this weekend. Thomas Biagi goes into the event leading the championship in his works Mercedes C63 AMG. The Italian is the only double winner so far in the season, as team-mate Vitantonio Liuzzi took the honours in the opening race at Monza and Giovanni Berton won the second race in Brno at the wheel of his BMW M3 E92.

Biagi has got a 21-points lead over Liuzzi, while Berton climbed up the standings to third after his commanding win in Czech Republic. Luigi Ferrara lies in fourth just two points shy of the BMW driver in his Mercedes C63 AMG Coupè, while Gianni Morbidelli in his Audi RS5 rounds up the top five with a 34-points gap from the lead.

All the five drivers named so far are expected to be the protagonists of the weekend. The track is new to all the Superstars Series teams and adapting to the track will play a big role in the outcome of the event.

Fabrizio Giovanardi may take advantage of this in his Porsche Panamera S, as the Petri Corse team will not have the disadvantage of visiting the track for the first time while the others already have experience with the track.

“It’s not going to be an easy weekend, but I’m quite positive”, said Giovanardi to TouringCarTimes. “The car is improving and we still need to take some rust away from it, but the team is well-prepared and we should be able to fight for the top positions as the season goes on. I had some bad luck in Brno as I collected a car during Race 2, but we can have some positive feelings heading into Slovakiaring.”

Qualifying starts at 17.00 CET on Saturday and will last thirty minutes.
