Vitantonio Liuzzi takes pole at the Slovakiaring
Vitantonio Liuzzi took a last gasp pole in Slovakia. The Romeo Ferraris Mercedes driver was 1.1 seconds faster than Roma Racing’s Luigi Ferrara, who was on pole until the chequered flag came out and Liuzzi improved his best lap by almost one and a half seconds and almost gave the Mercedes C63 AMG Coupè its maiden pole position.
Giovanni Berton confirmed the good form shown in Brno and, despite carrying ballast, managed to get his Team Dinamic BMW up to third ahead of team-mate Max Mugelli.
Fabrizio Giovanardi put his Petri Corse Porsche Panamera S in fifth. The Italian, who led the second Free Practice today, came home just ahead of championship leader Thomas Biagi, carrying forty kilos of ballast in his Romero Ferraris Mercedes C63 AMG due to his performances in Brno.
Gianni Morbidelli was seventh in his Audi RS 5 ahead of the Caal Racing Mercedes of Andrea Bacci, with Andrea Larini’s Jaguar in ninth and Mauro Trentin’s BMW rounding out the top ten.
Francesco Sini’s Chevrolet Camaro did not take part in the session due to an accident he had in Free Practice. The Italian confirmed that he is not injured, but the car suffered extensive damage and Sini defined the shunt as “the worst of my career”.
The first race will be held at 12.00 CET tomorrow.
