Superstars vows to continue despite SWR liquidation

The Superstars Series expects to continue to run in 2014. Sources told TouringCarTimes that plans to continue the championship are well on the way, and could be announced as early as mid-December.

According to our sources, there will be eight teams helped by the organisation, with several high-profile teams interested in the championship due to the financial backing granted before the season starts.

Most of the changes announced earlier this month for next year will be implemented. The structure of the championship will therefore change radically, making it more international.

It is rumoured that the two-race format will be replaced by a single race of 35 minutes in order to make it easier to broadcast the races.

Teams are said to have been reassured by the management, so much so that several teams and drivers are already developing their plans for next year, working on sponsorship and driver deals and working on their cars. It is still unclear whether or not there will be new cars developed for 2014, but a possible entry with a Ford Mustang has already been mentioned by series director Maurizio Flammini.

It is not clear as of now who will organise the championship after SWR, the company which has run the Superstars Series to date, has been put into liquidation. However, it seems like one or more new investors will step in, as was indicated by SWR’s earlier statement when it announced its closure.
