Audi and BMW victories in Portugal

The Superstars Series first race outside of the Italian borders was held in Portimao, Portugal. Hop Mobile Audi Sport Italia driver Filipe Albuquerque took the victory on his home soil, giving Audi their first win of the year. The Portuguese driver was handed the victory after his team-mate Alberto Cola was penalized for having made contact with Gianni Morbidelli on the last lap.

With the Italian being penalized meant that Thomas Biagi got a important second place, as he extended his championship lead. Christian Montanari completed the podium.

Gabellini had a strong race and finished fourth, he started from the back of the grid after having problems in qualifying. The BMW Italia driver came home ahead of Luigi Ferrara and team-mate Gianni Morbidelli, who lost five places because of last lap contact.

Race two started with Ferrara leading, but the two BMW drivers Gabellini and Morbidelli passed him and went on to score a 1-2 for BMW. Cola made up for his race one mistake and went on to score a good third, ahead of Ferrara and Biagi, who is now leading the championship with a 17 points margin from Ferrara.

Pigoli stands third, 21 points shy of Biagi, while Morbidelli and Cola round up the top five with a gap of 40 and 42 points respectively. Superstars Series next event will be held at Hockenheim on June, 13th, as touring car legend Giovanardi joins the series in a Porsche, making the field even more interesting.
