Ferrara takes a Mercedes double at Hockenheim

Mercedes dominated the Superstars weekend at Hockenheim. The start of race one was eventful. Zadotti spun, leading Gabellini to damage his BMW. Ferrara passed Pigoli for the lead, with Morbidelli right behind in third.

The BMW Italia driver tried to attack Pigoli, but Biagi took advantage of the situation and passed the former F1 driver. The fight enabled Cola and Herbert to close the gap to the front runners, making the fight even more interesting.

Ferrara started to push immediately, opening a gap that was soon to be neutralized, as a huge crash between Baldi, Meneghello and Dionisio forced the safety car out.

At the restart, Herbert climbed up to fourth, but got penalized for a jump start. On lap 10 Pigoli made a mistake caused by oil on the track, and had to let Biagi through. Morbidelli tried to take advantage from it and started to put pressure on the Mercedes driver, but Pigoli managed to hold him behind and come home third.

The race finished with Ferrara’s third season win, ahead of Biagi and Pigoli, as Morbidelli and Cola rounded up the top five.

Race Two

Pigoli took command early on in the second race after a great start, taking first place in the hairpin.

But Pigoli was soon to be passed by Ferrara who went up in to a solid lead, not to be lost for the rest of the race.

Mean while Herbert was making up ground, passing Cressoni who made a mistake. While Herbert had climbed up in to third, he was soon to be chased by Biagi, who finished second in the first race.

Herbert had problems with a oversteering Chevrolet Lumina, but despite that managed to stay ahead of Biagi to take his second ever Superstars podium finish.

The race was won by Ferrara, with Pigoli and Herbert rounding up the podium. Ferrara has climbed to second in the championship, just one point behind championship leader Biagi.
