BMW Team Italy signs Biagi, Cerqui and Gabellini
BMW Team Italy [ROAL Motorsport] has signed three drivers for the Superstars 2011 season. Thomas Biagi, Alberto Cerqui and Stefano Gabellini are going to be behind the wheel of three works BMW M3.
“We decided to line up three cars instead of the four of last year to optimize the resources and the technical solutions,” said team boss Roberto Ravaglia.
Cerqui is only 18 years old and is going to be the youngest driver ever to compete for the team.
“The confirmation of Biagi and Gabellini allows us to guarantee a consistent stability within the team, while the insertion of a young talent like Cerqui, who will have the chance to grow up gradually with the team, is an important novelty both for us and for the championship,” said Ravaglia.
Biagi is pleased to continue with the team after securing the 2010 Superstars title in dominating fashion.
“Racing with BMW Team Italy in 2010 was a dream come true for me and continuing this in 2011 too is great. The feeling with the team, the best I have raced for in my career, is perfect and this is an advantage with respect to last year when we started from scratch,” said Biagi.
Gabellini was team mate to Biagi last year, finishing fifth in the championship with one victory.
“I am really satisfied by this confirmation, that in some ways is even more important than the initial agreement with the team in 2010: even if my championship last year lived some episodes not always fortunate, BMW bosses decided to bet on me again; this decision excites me and I hope a season full of satisfaction for the whole team will follow,” said Gabellini.
