Max Pigoli takes pole for Superstars opener

Mercedes-driver Max Pigoli claimed pole position for the first Superstars race of 2011 at Monza in Italy. Pigoli beat Maserati-driver Andrea Bertolini to pole with just 0.051 seconds.

Female driver Michela Cerruti, team mate to Pigoli, claimed third position on the grid, four tenths from the fastest time of the session.

Reigning champion Thomas Biagi set the fourth fastest time and was over 1.3 seconds from pole position in his Team BMW Italia-prepared BMW M3.

Jaguar-driver Fransesco Sini claimed fifth on the grid ahead of former Formula One-driver Johnny Herbert who for this season drives a Mercedes C-Class for Romeo Ferraris Mercedes. A total of 25 cars took part in the qualifying session.
