ROAL celebrate pair of perfect results at Portimao

Italian team ROAL Motorsport are celebrating new found pace at Portimao, as the BMW squad scored a perfect 1-2-3 result in both races after a troubled start to the season.

Reigning champion Thomas Biagi lead team-mates Alberto Cerqui and Stefano Gabellini in both races, demonstrating a quick turnaround in performance from the lead BMW outfit. The team’s previous best result this season was a third place for Biagi in race one at Valencia.

“Today we achieved two historic results thanks to the great work done by the whole team and to the performance of our drivers on a circuit favouring BMW cars,” said Team Principal Roberto Ravaglia.

“Biagi confirmed himself at the highest levels, he did not make the smallest mistake and harvested two important victories.”

“Cerqui amazed everyone. Despite this being his first time in Portiamo he secured the pole position and was very competitive in the races. He has very good potential and we are very happy to see him growing within our team.”

“I also liked Gabellini’s races, after a good qualifying he took his M3 BMW twice on the podium with great determination.”

Biagi has now jumped into the championship lead, nine points clear of the CAAL Racing Mercedes-Benz of Luigi Ferrara.

BMW Team Italia (ROAL Motorsport) have now moved into the Teams Championship lead. BMW Team Italia are on 142 points ahead of Romeo Ferraris (Mercedes) on 106 points and CAAL Racing (Mercedes) on 88.
