Gianni Morbidelli returns with Audi Sport Italia
Gianni Morbidelli returns to the International Superstars Series with Audi Sport Italia, the team with which he won his first two titles in 2007 and 2008.
With backing from pneumatics specialists Camozzi, the team will also develop the RS5 for competition in the championship.
In the meanwhile, Morbidelli will compete a partial season for the remainder of 2011 in the Audi RS4 which he raced up until 2008 when he moved to BMW Team Italia (ROAL Motorsport), winning his third championship in 2009, before going for an all out attack in 2012 with the new RS5.
“Having Audi Sport Italia fully-committed on the new RS5 project is really rewarding, as the new car will be joining a long list of car models currently racing in SUPERSTARS,” said Superstars Series MD Vincenzo Lamaro.
“And in addition to Audi, we welcome back Gianni Morbidelli, whose name is strictly tied to SUPERSTARS. He’ll have to face many challengers along the way, including Herbert, Biagi and Bertolini, but we are sure that he will be back at the top immediately.”
